To balance profit and purpose effectively, we need to be resilient, brave, and humble, and always stay true to our mission and vision.
It requires stamina and perseverance to stick to our values and purpose in the face of challenges and setbacks.
It takes courage to stand up for what we believe in, even when it's not the popular or easy choice.
And it also requires vulnerability to admit when we've made mistakes and to learn from them, as we work to create a better world.
As the owner of Across Rainbows and Arcobaleno, I know firsthand how tough it is to balance purpose and profit. Our vision is to redefine queer identity by creating a world where all individuals can live authentically and embrace their unique selves. We create safe and inclusive spaces for individuals to explore their identity and connect with others in the community.
But balancing purpose and profit is easier said than done.
We believe that maintaining our values and commitment to our purpose is worth it, even if taking a strong stance on an issue related to LGBTQ+ rights can sometimes alienate potential customers or partners, ultimately impacting the bottom line. But we believe that maintaining our values and commitment to our purpose is worth it.
Research claims that purpose-driven businesses like ours are more likely to attract top talent, build loyal customer bases, and create sustainable growth. However, as small purpose-driven businesses, we often operate on a much tighter budget than big corporations and face daily struggles just to survive.
There's often a "happily ever after" effect, where companies go through the motions of becoming purpose-driven but struggle to maintain that balance over time. It's not enough to simply go through the motions of being a purpose-driven company.
We must actively work to maintain that commitment every day.
Balancing purpose and profit requires making difficult decisions that challenge our values and prioritizing long-term success over short-term gains. It's a constant balancing act that demands relentless vigilance and reflection.
Maintaining the balance between purpose and profit is a constant challenge, but one that is worth undertaking for long-term success. Small purpose-driven businesses like Across Rainbows and Arcobaleno must work harder to maintain that balance while facing daily struggles just to survive. It's a journey of difficult decisions, prioritizing values over short-term gains, and embracing uncertainty and change.
Despite all that we remain committed to our purpose.
