ABOUT
Redefining Queer Identity
Across Rainbows is on a mission to help LGBTQ+ people find and claim their sense of self. It’s time for us to be heard and seen for who we are — not who we’ve been told we ought to be. Through talks, workshops and community, Across Rainbows provides everything queer people of all ages and backgrounds need to stand up, make confident and courageous moves, thrive, and live life their way.

Our Story
The Across Rainbows community was started by Luciana Cousin and her son Nick at the start of the 2020 pandemic. It was born from wanting to fix what affected them personally. For too long, many people in the LGBTQ+ community have been subtly coerced into adopting and expressing an identity they’ve been told is socially acceptable. This forced identity has led to a crisis of collective and individual low sense of self. Across Rainbows is here to change that.
Read about Luciana’s personal experience here.
For many of us, our dreams and ambitions have been stifled and silenced by those around us. We live in a world that constantly tells us what to do, how to act, what to be.
● Don’t be too loud
● Don’t be too gay
● Be fun
● Be camp
● Don’t be straight acting
● Be my ‘gay-best-friend’
What is queer identity?
Some people have a bad emotional connection with the word queer. It was a very derogative, insulting term in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Today, we choose to reclaim and redefine the former slur — and here’s why:
1
Queer is a collective word for LGBTQ+ and the rest of the alphabet.
2
The word queer is about being non-normative, creative and different.

Being different is what makes us beautiful
Nurturing our queer identity, relationships and purpose helps us navigate through the world and our role in it – with resilience and creativity. This sparks a new understanding and acceptance of ourselves, each other and the world.
At Across Rainbows we:
Support the sexual, social, mental and spiritual wellbeing of LGBTQ+ people.

Take control of what it means to be LGBTQ+, being who we are — not what the world says we should be.
Challenge and change the narrative the world wrote for us.

Offer community and the tools needed to stand up strong in a sometimes very hostile and unsafe world.

Champion the LGBTQ+ community with passion, courage and integrity.

Who we are
When people come together and move in the same direction, extraordinary things happen.
